Happy slightly belated New Year! (With bonus super-slo-mo of the Sydney fireworks on NYE...)
Been meaning to post a few photos from New Year's Eve here in Sydney, but also this video that I shot on the night - I realised I had a pretty good vantage point lined up, so I found a tripod mount for my iPhone 5S and decided to experiment a little with the 120fps video it can do. Things I learned from this: - the Manfrotto Klyp is a really good tripod mount for the iPhone 5/5S; very solid, much better than the spring-mounted options I kept finding around town;
- 3 Legged Thing makes a very good, compact, lightweight & sturdy tripod (in this case, Brian); but do take a bit of care if you're using an Arca-Swiss head for the first time, it's entirely possible for your camera to slip off the back if you haven't mounted it properly (ahem);
- video on the iPhone isn't nearly as sensitive to low-light as the camera is for photography, so you may find your videos are quite a bit darker than you initially expected;
- while my initial (short) tests didn't seem to do any refocussing or re-metering of the scene, when a longer video was running it did a bit of both. Again, just something to be aware of, as you can't really prevent it from doing so, and at 120fps (played back at 30) it becomes fairly obvious...
So, those notes aside, here's how it looked...!
